The Hamilton Telephone Exchange.
When the Hamilton Telepeone Exchange was established nearly four years ago the equipment provided was of an antique character, the authorities never anticipating that the business would have increased as it has done. The result of this was that the officials worked at a disadvantage, and the public had to be content with frequent delays. The work of the officers was largely increased by the necessity for ringing caused by the switchboard in use, but we are pleased to say the authorities have realised the necessity for more up-to-date equipment, and have now installed three 100 number Western Eletcric Company’s annunciators. These switchboards will enable the attendants to answer calls more expeditiously, and the only ringing that will have to be done by subscribers is to the exchange, the second ring not being necessary. The switchboards provide for 300 subscribers, the present number being just about ICO, so that there is ample room for expansion. We congratulate the Department on making the necessary provision for future increase, and hope that it will not be long until this proves inadequate.
