Our Waingaro correspondent writes :—Our road except where it is metalled is in a very bad state, and I am sorry to report that the metal is getting bad in places through the water being allowed to remain on a level with the crown and unless some repairs are made some culverts laid and water tables cat, very soon the metal which has cost the ratepayers so much will have disappeared. The Hamilton Polo Club wound up the season with a ball, held in the Volunteer Hall last evening. The weather was most unfavourable for a gathering of this description, and the heavy rain which fell during the day and evening prevented many from attending, who wonld under other circumstances have taneu the opportunity of being present. On this occasion greenery was al most entirely dispensed with, the decorations consisting mainly ol guy - coloured fl»es, saddles and bridles, polo sticks and club colours, and the effect was a very pleasing one, indeed. It is a heartbreaking job to try and make the old building at all presentable, and dancing enthusiasts are all anxiously awaiting the result of the ratepayers' poll regarding the new hall. In spite of the adverse circun.stances the hall was well filled, many friends ot the club driving all the way from Cambridge in order to bo present. Mrßoswotth's band, consisting of the leader (violin), Miss Soppet (piano). Mr Hunter, Auckland (cornet), and Mr J. H. Edwards, Cambridge (double bass), provided excellent music whi3h met with the approbation of everyone. Mr J.
