(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Waiui, Last Night. A TERRIBLE accident occurred yesterday morning at Bond and Judd's sawmill at Katikati. An employee named Samuel Middlebrook, 60 years old, whilst engaged at work, was caught in a revolving shaft of the machinery. No one else was present at the time. Before assistance arrived the unfortunate man had been whirled round and round. Every stitch of clothing was torn off, and terrible injuries were inflicted. When released he was unconscious. Dr. Slater was sum* moned from Waihi and arrived at noon. On examination he found a deep lacerav lion of the head, body, and elbow, an ankle sprained, and serious injury to the spine. The doctor, after dressing the man's wounds, had him sent into Katikati, where he lu-a in a precarious coudi*tioc. It is thought ho is progressing wonderfully considering the extent of his injuries.
