EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
The annual meeting of the Auckland District Educational Institute was held yesterday in Auckland. Mr Newton presided over a good attendance. The annual report of the Managing Committee stated that 46 teachers had joined the Institute since the last annual meeting, bringing the membership up to over 400, and the three branches continued in a'flourishing condition. The committee had done what they could to further the teachers' superannuation scheme. The report referred to the case of Mr Priestley, who was summoned for assaulting a pupil. The C3se dismissed with costs against the plaintiff The committee retained counsel for the defence. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £4l 29a 7d. The following officers were elected for the eusuing year :—President, Mr F. J. Ohlson : vice-Presidents. Messrs T. U. Wells and J. Armstrong ; secretary, Mr G. H. Plummer ; trea*urer, Mr C. R. Munro ; committee, Misses Mcllhnno and Shrewsbury, Messrs Stewart, horiot, Newton, Wooller, Murray, Cousius, Rapson and McNaughton ; auditor*, Me&srs W. W. Hill and J. Christie.
