WE VETERANS' HOME.

(BY TELEGRAPH—PEESS ASSOCIATION), Wellington, Last Night ATt a meeting of the Board of the Veterans' Home, presided over by Lord Ranfurly, it was decided that it would be moat economical to furnish the Home in a substantial manner, so that the cost of keep in future would not be great. Several designs for the national memorial were submitted, and that of Mr Hutchiu son, contractor for the building, was accepted. Mr Hutchinson's i ffer to present the tablets was accepted with thanks. The memorial will take the form of a largo walnut frame with a handsome moulding, and will have eeven panels. The centre panel will be double the width of the others, and will contain an inscription. Three panels on each side will contain the names of all the New Zealanders who died in the South African war. The names will be entered under their several contingents in alphabetical order, and after them will be the names of New Zeahnders who served with other regiments, or with irregular corps. The list, which already numbers about 270, is being carefully compiled, and Lord Northland, hon. secretary of the Veterans' Home, has sent a circular to all parts of i;he colony with a view to obtaining as complete a list as possible. Several gifts to the Home were reported. A list of applications from VVellington, West Coast, Canterbury, Otapo, and Southland for admission to the Home was laid on the the table for enquiry. It was reported that Auckland applications would he ready for selection in the course of a week.
