SOMALILAND.
REPORTED ABYSSINIAN VICTORY. London, July 1. A despatch received from Colonel Rochefort, the chief British officer accompanying the Abyssinian column, dated June 6, shows that the Abyssinians, before the Mullah's fliu'ht northward, surprised his (the Mullah's) Baggari horse and spearmen at dawn on May 31, at Jed, near Bur. After a slight resistance the enemy's mounted infantry fled. lullah's uncle and 1000 spearre reported to have been and 1000 camels were oapAbyssinians' presence prethe Mullah from obtaining water south of the Gerlogubi-Caladi line. Colonel Rochefort, writing on June 14, states that the Abyssinians, owing to insufficiency of water, wea* urrable to reach Gerlogubi. #rain requirements necessitated going to the Shebele district. The Mullah has sent to General Manning, offtiring to exchange his captured Maxims for ammunition. He insolently asked what we wanted his country for. General Manning replied, advising him to come in and submit.
