HOSPITAL BOARDS.

> PROJECTED LEGISLATION. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, jLast Night. It was foreshadowed by the Premier, in replying to a deputation from Wanganui yesterday morning, that further legislation will be brought in with the object of enlarging the scope of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards to levyj on their districts. The ..deputation wanted a grant in aid of a unrsei' homo. The hospital trustees could borrow £I4OO towards the cost on the property, but that £I4OO did not entitle them to receive a Government subsidy, as would have been the case had it been raised by means of a levy or by public subscription. It was pointed out that the trustees had no power to levy for new buildings, but only for maintenance purposes. Mr Seddon remarked that ho thought Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards ought to have power to le>y for new buildings, which were frequently an urgent necessity. An amendment to that effect was required in the law, and he would look into the matter and bring it before the Cabinet, and when the deputation reached Wangauui he hoped to be able to give it au answer that the Government had decided to submit a vote to Parliament on the lines suggested.
