PILFERING GOODS.

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION). Chribtohcech, This Day. For almost a year there have been complaints of pilferations committed in ret spect of good handled by the Railway Department. Although a strict watch has been kept the depredators succeeded in escaping after broaching cargo of various sorts, principally groceries and other good. A long and arduous supervision by the police has now been brought to an end, and three members of the railway service have been arrested. They will be brought before the Court to-day charged with misappropriating property. The arrests will not cease here, for it is understood that several other officers will also be arrested to-day oharged with a similar offence. The position is painful, as a number of those alleged to be connected with the misappropriations are old and tried servants of the Department, and men with wives and children. Later. Francis Hiddleston, Robt. 8. Plett and Joseph Francis Ferron, three young married men employed as night shunters at Christchurch were charged with stealing groceries, wirenetting, whiskey, etc., the property of the New Zealand Go> vernment. They were remanded for a \veek, small bail being allowed. Subsequently three more railway men were arrested on a similar oharge.
