RAILWAY ACCIDENTS.
(by telegraph—press association). Oamaku, Last Night. A B'ATAIi accident occurred about one o'clock this morning. A young man named Alexander Russell, a driver employed by the New Zealand Express Co , while engaged trucking scenery for the Hajeroni Company at a railway siding, was crushed so oadly between two trucks that be died almost immediately. Donedin, Last Night. George Gnvton, aged 16. waa run over to-day near Pelichet Bay Station, a carriage passing over his right leg, It is supposed that in rising from his seat on the platform of the carriage hi? foot skidded. He was removed to the hos* pital for treatment. The man killed on the railway at Waikouaiti has been identified as Wm. Egan, a uative of Belgium, and a fisherman. He had been hawking fish about the township during the day, and meeting a countryman they had some drink. Ah he was seen to fall approaching the station he was refused a ticket, and he must have started to walk along the line, and evidently laid down. The jury returned a verdict that he met his death while under the influence of liquor by the train passing over him, no blame being attachable to anyone.
