MERCER REGATTA.
On Saturday, November 30th (St. Andrew’s Day), the annual regatta of the Mercer Association and the Northern Rowing Uuioif (combined) takes place, and should excel all its predecessors. Unusual interest is being taken, and large entries are anticipated, as several new canoes have been built for the occasion, and the Huntly natives purpose entering for all the Maori events. A ngeri, which is well worth seeing, will be given by the Maoris in their canoes on arrival of the last special train. No fewer than four war canoes will contest the two events for these craft, which should prove the feature of the day. The hurdle races should be both amusing and interesting. The rowing regatta ol the Northern Rowing Union should again be a great attraction, as ail the clubs have their various crews in training, and large fields will face the starter. Given a fine day, this pretty riverside township should have a very large concourse of people, eager for a good day’s outing, and to witness an excellent regatta on the Waikato at Mercer, which is without doubt the finest course in the colony for a regatta.
