IMPORTATION OF HIGH-CLASS FARM STOCK.

A visRY important addition was made to the high-class stock now in this colony, by the arrival of the s.s. longariro, which reached Lyttelton on the Brh inst. Mr James E. Devouport, of Christchurch, by that vessel, imported from Home some valuable accessions to the live stock of the colony., Amongst them were several lots of stud sheep ; one pen of very fine Southdown ewer, bred by His Majesty the King, on the Sandtingham Estate, the others consisting of from the well-known flocks of Messrs William Cooper and Nephews, late Sir Jos. Palley, Philo Mills, aod A. E. Mansell. In addition is a Linco'.;i ram from the Eecathorpe flocks. The sheep are in splendid condition after their two months’ journey. At Hobart, when the vessel called, several Shropshire ewes found a purchaser in one of the leading Tasmanian breeders, and if these sheep are of as grand a quality as the rams now on board the Tongariro, Tasmania has gained and New Zealand has lost by tbe Hobart transaction. The Tongariro also brought out a very fine Clydesdale stallion, Mr J. Boat; aod his son, of Brookside, Canterbury, having beeu all tha way to Scotland to buy the best horse they could find. The hj rse will be a valuable addition to the stud 'stock of the colony. He stands 17j hands, six years old, colour dappled brown. His sire is the celebrated Prince of Wales, said to be the best stallion ever seen in .Scotland Ha has come through tbe journey in the best of health and condition, and before leaving took the £IOO premium three times in succession.
