THE CENSURE MOTION
A COUNTER MOVE. Melbourne. October 18. The vote of censure debate so far is but a wordy debate between tbj New South Wales freetraders and iflPVictorian protectionists. The speeches are remarkable mostly for length. Sir G. Turner, replying to the criticism, said the Ministry would stand by the main principles of the tariff, but were quite willing to consider the suggested amendment of the scheme, which could be put foi ward to prevent the formation of rings. Later. The censure debate was adjourned till Tuesday. The Opposition refused to promise to close the debate on Wednesday. It is rumoured in the lobbies that an amendment in favour of direct taxation will be moved to Mr Reid’s motion.
