SIR HECTOR M'DONALD
(Received October 15, 12 49 a.in. Melbourne. October 15. At the invitation of/the Mayor, Sir Hector McDonald was the guest at a gathering of prominent citizens, including Mr Barton and the Federal Ministers, in the Town Hall. Sir Hector Macdonald, acknowledging the enthusiastic welcome, said he was uot vain enough to think that the compliments paid him were purely personal. He considered they were intended to mark the appreciation of the quiet, manly and assiduous work of the rank and tile of the British Army, of which ho proved to be an unworthy repesentative.
