THE LATE GOODS TRAIN.
Mr C. J. W. Barton, Town Clerk, Hamilton, has received the following communication from Mr H. Buxton, District Traffic Manager. ‘ In reply to your letter of the Kith hist with reference to the train leaving Mercer, lor Frankton Junction at Bp. m. I have to inform you that the train in question is purely a goods train, ami does not arrive at Mercer until 7.55 p. m. making a stop there of only five minutes. In compliance with the request of the Hamilton Burgesses Association, a passenger carriage was attached to I his train from Mercer tor the convenience of passenger, for stations south of Mercer, but the train is run for the purp tss of giving despatch to goods received at Auckland and adjoming stations during the forenoon fur the Waikato district. An earlier departure from Mercer southward would cause a disconnection in the through goods service. In the meintime the passenger business >s not sufficiently important to warrant neglect of the goods traffic, but the question of making better provi ion for the passengers will be kept in view when a favourable opportunity antes.
