HEAVY RAIN IN HAMILTON.

Steady rain fell for the creator p.-rtof this morning, but about 11 o’clock there was exceptionally heavy downpour lasting fur at tmt inilf-an-liour. The watertables were soim awash, but no damage was done in tile main street. At Mr G. L. limes’ brewery, however, near the traffic bridge the water overflowed the channels and rushing down the hill swept away a considerable portion of the foundation of his brewery, a large building, having one tilde and a portion of the end washed away. Luckily the rain did not continue or the building would have come down, and heavy damage been caused. The brewery staff got to work, and diverted the flood water, so as to minimise the risk of damage should the rain con.e on again.
