The Women's Council resolved to do all in its power to discountenance the manufacture, importation, and tale of alcoholic liquors, and that the Ouut.eil re-affirm* the great democratic principle of the Government by majority on all questions. The following resolution was carried unanimously :—That the Council approach the Minister for Education with.a view to havius scientific instrnc tion in the nature of of alcohol and its effects ou the hum in body given to children in cur public schools. After disoussiug the question of peace and arbitration, the Council considered that the difficulties I etween nations arc always capable of peac fnl settlement if mediatory methods ire employed in time, and it therefore hoait'lv welcomes the establishment >f '.he International Court of Arbitration. It. was resolved that the sole qualification fur an old aye pension should he twenty-rive years' residence in the colony, and certificate of age of sixty-five years, and that the amount of the pension be increased to 10s a wecK.
