Mr J. IT. Siu'L's recently gave- to the Ilawera Musaum some cannon balls. l'liese were fired from H.MS. Alligator on the coast, and were carried ou to Mr Signs' property, and afterwards found, having lain embedded since 1532. The reason of the shots being fired was due to the wife of tho captain of the Harriet [wrecked beyond Opunake) having boon captured by the Maoris, and the Alligator ca"nie along' tiring shots iut > a settlement near the coast Hue.
