NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Bourd was held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday. Present: Messrs Corboy (chairman), Nicholson, VVashsr and Shepherd. Totara Timber.—Mr B. Cox wrote, offering to deliver totara timber at Mercer for 17s 5d per 100ft.—The Chairman was requested to order sufficient timber for Jones' culvert. Transactions in Land.—Mr T. W. Crowley wrote, informing the Board that he had sold some laud to Dr. Uosking.— Ths Clerk was directed to obtain further particulars.—Mr Geo Jack ulso wrote re title to land lately obtained in exchange for road. War Fund —A communication was received from Mr D. Goldie, Mayor of Auckland, covering a subscription list in aid of the war fund. —The Chairman and other members present were in sympathy with the object, and it was decided to leave the list at the Board's office so that all who desire to assist may have an opportunity of doing so. Thirds. —A memo, was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lauds, stating that fuller particulars will have to be giveu in future respecting the expenditure of thirds. Rate Notice?.—As no legal opinion was received from Mr Dyer, the Board's solicitor, the Clerk was directed to interview him at once, re rate notices to be sent out. New Road —A plan of the road proposed to be taken under the Public VVorks Act at Te Kowhai Creamery, was received from Mr Drury, surveyor, but was sent back for alteration.—lt was decided to forward the plan—when complete—toeether with memo, of agreement to Mr Wesley Spragg for signature by himself and partner. Tenders.—The following tender for No. 3 contract, Jones' culvert, was received :—D. F. Scott : Building and placing culvert with tarred timber, £lO 16s ; without tar, £8 16s, the latter was accepted. This was the only tender for the various works advertised, and it was decided that No. 1 contract, cutting near Te Kowhai creamery, be left in the hands of the Chairman. No. 2 contract being left in the hands of Mr Nicholson, who was also authorised to have some small improvements carried out on Hunt's Road, Te Kowhai. Accounts. The following accounts were passed for payment :—W. A. Wilcock, £3 lis 9d ; J. E. Magner, £l3 8s 10d. Extension. —Mr Magner applied for extension of time to complete his contracts. -This was granted.—(Own Correspondents).
