BOARD OF EDUCATON.

♦ At the meeting of the Board of Education, iu Auckland, on Wednesday, the following busiuess of interest in this district was transacted. The Selection Committee reported that they had considered the 23 applications for the hoadtnastership of the Te Awamutu school dud recommend that the names aud qualifications of the following six candidates be submitted to the School Committee for their considerations, viz , Messrs H. VV. Phillips. J. S. Colhoun, J. S. Phillips, H. F. Forde and G. W. Rapson, B.A. The Committee recommended that the services of W. H. Smith and Janet L. Crawley, as pupil teachers, be accepted when they may be required. A letter was considered from the Waikato branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, asking that consideration of Dr. McArthur's scale of payment of head teachers be held over until after the general conference of teachers.—Dr. McArthur said he would like a special meeting to consider it, as the subject would take up at least two hours.—Mr Hobhs said under the circumstances he would not go on with the motion he had prepared.—Mr Bagnall did not favour Government control of education —lt was resolved to consider the question at a special meeting to be held on Friday.
