It will be seen by alteration in Mr Raymond's auction advertisement that he holds sales ou Tuesdays, in place of Mondays, at Rotorua. Mr W. J. Hunter will hold his usual sale at Cambridge on Saturday next, and will offer a choice lot of young cattle from T. Hicks and others, fresh cows and heifers and bullocks from W. Thornton, and a nice lot of well-bred steers from N. I. Hunt ; he will also offer a lot of furniture, etc., on account of J. Collie.

A cablegram from Ooolgardie says : A miner told an extraordinary story to the police. He stated that he was ascending from a mine when another miner beat him back with a heavy stick. He tried several times to ascend, bub was similarly treated. He wf»s kept imprisoned for two days and three niqhfs. The man also threw down three plugs of dynamite, with a bruniDg fuse attached. Finally, on reaching the top he found his assailant gone. He was taken to the hospital almost dead from thirst and hunger. A man has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

Mr F. W. Lang addressed a very large meeting of electors in the Voluuteer Hall, Hamilton, ou Tuesday evening. The room was completely filled and many were compelled to stand throughout the speech, which lasted about two hours. His Worship the Mayor (Mr Win, Dey) presided and on the stage were seated some 40 or 50 of Mr Lang's lady supporters. The address was given mainly on the lines of the oue delivered at Tc Awamutu, and fully reported by us last Tuesday, and it was a manly, straightforward explanation of the stand taken by him on the many important measures which have come before the House during his six years of membership. At the conclusion of his address Mr Lang received a hearty vote of thanks and confidence and was lustily cheered.

At the meeting of the Auckland Presbytery on Tuesday, the Rev. W. Evans, who was appointed to moderate in a call to the vacant charge at Cambridge, reported that the congregation had been uuanimous in giving a call to the Rev. J. Krwin. He handed in the call, which was signed by 112 members out of a communion roll of 131. Should the presbytery sustain the call, and the Rev. J. Erwin accept it, he (the Rev. Evans) could assure him that there was a career of happiness and usefulness before him. He would come r.o a unanimous Church. Mr John Fisher, of Pukerimu, commissioner, endorsed the re« marks of the Rev. Evans as to the heartiness and unanimity of the call. The Church had never before had so many members as it had at present, and it was in a satisfactory state financially. The clerk read a communication from the treasurer of the session, stating that the stipend was £2OO a year, with manse and glebe of three acres. On the motion of the Rev. R. F. Macnicol, seconded by the Rev. 1). J. Steele, the presbytery sustained the call, and p'aced it in the hands of the Rev. J. Erwin, who stated he had much pleasure in accepting it. lie thanked the congregation for the hearty way in which t! cy had received him, and expressed ili hope that the union that was about I uke place would be for the further*.mo of the Kingdom of God. The Rev. .!. B.Hall was appointed to servo the ii| ct next Sunday, and the Rev. R. F. "SI icnicol on the following Sabbath. The i duction was fixed to take place on Wednesday, the 20th, at four p.m. ; the Rev, Win. Evans to induct and address the minister, the Rev. R. Wylie to address the people, and the Rev. Hugh Kelly to preach.
