CHESS MATCH

Tub first contest between the Thames and Hamilton chess players took place last Saturday evening by telegraph, nine players aside. The games commenced at 7.30 p.m. and continued on until midnight, at which hour none of the games were finished, and will be sent to Mr Leliovre, Auckland, for his adjudication. In only three games does thore appear to be decided advantages, viz., game 2 where Mr Stevens (Hamilton) won Mr Hall's Queen for a B ; shop ; game 4 where Mr Allen (Thames) won a Knight from Mr Lye, and game 8 where Mr Mahon (Hamilton) has a Bishop to the best of Mr Payne. The result of the match will be known in a few days, when the full score will be published.
