TO THE EDITOR. Slß,—We have received a copy of " The Sugar-beet Bill, 1899," from Wellington, which Ins already been read a first time, and to show the uecessity of the immediate signing and return of the guarantees recently posted to the existing guarantors as drawn by our solicitors, Messrs Devore and Cooper, in full view of the requirements of the Government, we desire to call attention to clauso 10, paragraph 3, of the said Bill, in which it states distinctly that it must be shown " that satisfactory contracts have been entered into with the owners or occupiers of such land to grow beet-root thereon and regularly supply the same to the company in quantities sufficient to keep the sugar works regularly and constantly employed during the ordinary working season, etc., etc." It is further stated that the company must supply full evidence in writing to the satisfaction of the Minister of Agriculture. We trust that the fanners will now understand fully the position in which we a.e placed, and will fully respond to their part of the undertaking.—We are, Sir, yours faithfully, The New Zealand Sugar-beet Syndicate.
