The Chamber of Commerce carried a resolution, that while strongly advocating the Pacific cable, the Eastern Extension Company's proposal to establish a bureau at Sydney should be adopted, and it would be an immediate benefit to users of the cable, both as regards cost and facilities for doing business. In adopting this resolution, the Chamber considered that the South African cable rate should participate in an immediate reduction. The idea is that with a growing traffic and commerce with South African they should immediately have a cheap rate. Mr Reid informed the House that he had tendered certain advice to the Governor, which was not accepted, and the resignations were handed in. The House has adjourned until to-morrow. Brisbane, September 12. Parliament will be opened to-morrow. The Governor's Speech will announce that the Federal Address to the Queen will be proceeded with forthwith. The promised legislation includes the abolition of plural voting, a continuation of assisted immigration, strict exclusion 6f aliens, and extensive railway construction, to promote settlement, and develop the resources of the oountry. References will also be made to the Pacific cable and New Guinea administration.
