FOOTBALL.

—♦ ■ The Hunt Club members and the Cambridge juniors had a good game at football on Wednesday afternoon at Cambridge, but as we anticipated, the latter proved victorious by 14 points to nil. Owing to the juniors all having the : r faces blackened, it was almost impossible to tell who was doing the work, but we repeatedly heard the name of Cannell mentioned as being to'the fore. For the Hunt Club Anderson did yeoman service, but he was too well watched to be able to score. He was often collared even before the ball reached him. In the first spell the hunters held their own manfully, bub at the close of it thr«e had to retire disabled, amongst them being Mr E. Walker. Substitutes were allowed in place of the disabled men, but it was no good, and the juniors added II to their score. Both teams afterwards had dinner together at the Criterion Hotel, the Hunt Club being mulcted in damages. The football match which was to have been piayed on Sydney Square this afternoon between the Cambridge and Ngaruawahia teams has been abandoned by the latter club. The result of the fixture could not in any way have effected the cap competition, as the Cambridge team had established such a long lead that neither Hamilton nor Ngaruawahia had a semblance of a chance of winning, even if the former club had been in a position to meet their engagement on Saturday last with the Delta players. Nevertheless it is a pity that the last match was not fooght out, and it is a wonder that the Ngaruawahia men did not make an effort to make the trip, if only to keep up their reputation for fulfilling engagements, which they have enjoyed in the past.
