CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

A meeting of the above committee was held in the Borough Chambers, Cambridge, on Thursday, at 730 p.m. There were present : Messrs C. Boyce (Chairman), J. Ferguson, C. Craig, Jas. H*lly and Jas. Webber. Pupil Teachers.—The Board of Education wrote, stating it would not supply an additional pupil teacher as requested, as the number was now according to scale.

Attendance.—The average attendance for the past quarter was 182 - 9 Inspector's Rkfobt.— This suggested several alterations iu the timetable, which the Chairman said had been earcied out. Absentees. The headmasters reported that Mills Victor, son of Robert Stewart, had only attended three times during the past quarter ; William, son of Robsrt Stewart and Minnie Johansen, had also failed to attend the requisite number of times.—lt was resolved to take proceedings against all delinquents during the month of Julv.—Robert Stewart wrote, asking that his son be allowed to leave school, as his mother required his services at home.—Declined. The Technical School.—Mr W. Roat wrote, calling attention to the fact that a number of tools which had been left in a cupboard at the school were missing. He looked the cupboard and left the key with the headteacher.— It was thought that some carpenters, who had been at work at the school had perhaps taken tliem in error, and the Chairman undertook to ascertain if they had. The Fchoolmaster's Residence The fence round the residence has become so rotten, that it was resolved to renew its forthwith, the matter being left in the hands of the Chairman and Mr Ferguson. Election. Ic was resolved to hold a special meeting on Friday, 21st July, at 7 30 p.m., for the purpose of voting for a member of the Board of Education. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment: W. Dodd, 16s ; Mrs Stewart, £4 15s ; G. E. Clark, 3s; J. S. Bond. £3 Os 4d ; W. Souter, 2a lid; T. Wells, £1 8s 91 ; W. Mc Veagh 3s ; J. Bridgman, 10s ; F. Ferguson, £1 2s. Signing Cheques. The Chairman and Mr Webber were authorised to sign cheques operating on the funds of the Committee.
