EAST ISLAND FATALITY.
(BV TELKGEAFH. —PBKPS ASSOCIATION). WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Government has decided to hold a department inquiry into the Hiuemoa boating accident, with the veiw of ascertaining if the work the boat was engaged in at the time of the accident was more than usually hazardous. On the arrival of the Takapuna on Saturday, the remains of Mr Brown, the late chief officer of t»»e Hiuemoa, will be conveyed from the ship's side to the Karori Cemetry. Kegarding a controversy in the Wellington press, as to the necessity for appointing trained men for the surf business, Mr G-lasgow, secretary for the Marine Department states that all hands ou the Hinemoa are carefully selected with regard to their special experience in surfing, as also are the officers. Mr Brown was thoroughly trained in the work.
One of the two bodies lately recovered at East Island is Buctiannan's, which shows thas he was not taken by a shark, or, a? suggested latter by an octopus. The other was that of Sjcblom.
