Manila, April 27. Fierce fighting has taken place at Calumpit, on Luzon Island. The Filipinos sustained heavy loss. They were eventually driveu from their entreuchments and fled to the hills. The Americans lost eight men killed. Later. Six thousand Americans engaged the bulk of Aguinaldo's army at Calumpit. The Americans shelled the enemy's trenches, forded the river, and advanced in extended line, steadily firing continuous volleys into the trenches. The Filipinos used two guns with modern shrapnel, but had the wrong range. Seventy Filipinos were killed.
