WARSHIP AGROUND.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION]. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). Brisbane, April 16. The German cruiser Coamoran, proceeding from Hongkong to Samoa, where she was to have relieved the Bussard, has arrived here with her masts gone and otherwise in a damaged condition.
En route she called at German New Gninea and left again on March 23. Next morning she went aground, hard and fast, at Whirlwind Reef. After six days and nights continuous labour, cutting away the main and foremasts, throwing overboard the steam steering gear, refrigerating machinery, and everything portable, except the guns, ammunition, and stores, the crew managed to get her Off.
A number of her sheathing planks w«re destroyed, but her hull is undamaged. She goes to Sydney for repairs, which are expected to take three months.
Captain Eusnaun says they had a most exciting time. Several times he was inclined to abandon the vessel but for the splendid, exertions of the officers and crew.
