Dr. Muzzoni successfully removed an old-standing inflamed growth the size of an orange from the Pope's left thigh. The operation occupied 12 minutes, and was of a painful character. It was borne with the utmost fortitude. The fever has now subsided and the Pope is in excellent spirits. A liquid anaesthetic was administered during the operation. The Pope said the doctors showed courage | in operating on such an old man.
