PAEROA JOTTINGS.

Me Jas Donnelly's store was burnt down at Komata about midnight on Saturday. There was no one on the premises, the family living some distance away. Nothing was saved. Mr Donnelly informs me that in addition to his stock, he lost £65 in money and a gold watch valued at £4O. The insurance on the stock and building was £250. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The books, fortunately, were not at the store.

The Waihi water supply is now completed. The Ohinemuri Agricultural unci Horticultural Societies first show was opened yesterday afternoon, and taking everything into consideration must be pronounced a decided success. The list of prize-winners was not completed, so that I cannot forward them now. General surprise was expressed at tho really excellent exhibits, especially considering the time of year. Mr E. Edwards exhibited an interesting case of minerals containing every known variety, including a piece of Oalifornian Reef, date 1849. An exhibit of coal in all its stages was well worth inspection, and soma samples of kauri gum, one piece especially, being like a piece of bacon, were very interesting. A milk separator was worked by Mr Petty. The Rev. Father Hackett sent a powerful microscope. Mr C. G. B. Moss sent a case of rare shells. Mr R. W. Evans exhibited some Beauty of Hebron potatoes, only planted Sj weeks before digging, he also had a fine collection of cut flowers,
