CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY.
The energetic members, and more ea pecially the committee of the Cainbridgo Chrysanthemum Society, are looking forward to a most successful show in April next ; the number of new varieties now being grown for exhibition is greator than in any previous year and include the majority—if not all—of those shown at the Birmingham and other great English shows this season. The Secretary (Mr Martin McDermott) has received a communication from Lady Ranfurly, who graciously gives her patronage to the Society. Of the muny valuable special prizes given yearly by the leading Auckland merchants and other friends of the Society, that presented by Messrs P. Hayman aud Co. is already to hand. It consists of a beautiful electro-plated afternoon tea service, comprising teapot, sugar basin and tongs, cream jug aud four cups and saucers, the whole surmounting a stand of unique aud chaste design. The Orchestral music, which has always proved a feature of the show, will again be under the direction of Mr J. H. Edwards, and we understand that a number of new pieces will shortly be put into active rehearsal ; there will probably be about twenty instrumentalists in the Orchestra this year. So far the weather has been conducive to strong and healthy growth, and the present condition of the plants indicates the probability ot keen competition and a magnificent display of blooms at the forthcoming show.
