In the House of Commons an attack upon the House of Lords, umde in the form of an amendment to the Ad-dress-in-Reply, was rejected by a large majority. Mr Balfour urged that the country should be grateful to the Lords for their usefulness in delaying the inclusion of unripe measures amongst the statutes, and preventing legislation of a violently reactionary character.
