PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The regular monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Morrinsville on Monday last, when there were present : Crs. Chepmell (in the chair), Gavin, Herries, Harrison, Farmer, McCaw, Hunt and Ring.

Bank Overdraft.—The Clerk reported this as being £156 12s 3d.

Goldeields Revenue.—The Warden's Court, Thames, advised that £3O 9s lid had been placed to the Couucil's oredit, being goldfields revenue for the period ending 31st December, 1898. Waiorongomai Road. The Mines Department advised that £l5O had been authorised towards the cest of repairing this road, and intimated that no allowance would be made for supervision. Tho whole amount must be spent on the road.

Waiorongomai Tram.—The Treasury advised that £SO had been granted towards the repairs of this tram.

Thomson's Track.—The Chairman of the Katikati Road Board wrote, requesting the co-operation of the Council in bringing pressure to bear on the Government to have this track put in proper order. Thames Harbour Board. —Mr R. W. Bagnall, of Thames, was appointed as the Council's representative on the Thames Harbour Board.

Slaughterhouse License,—Tho application of E, G. Beeson for a license to slaughter at Waiorongomai was ad journed to admit of an inspection of the site.

Thackray'b Contract.—A. Thackray wrote for a week's extension of time, as he had been engaged harvesting.—The Council decided to deal with this request when the contract was completed. Dog Collars.—lt was reported ttaat certain dog collars supplied by F. Marshall, of Tirau, were uot quite up to the sample, and the Council decided to reject all defective ones.

Road at Waitoa —ln reply to a query from the Railway Department, it was decided to inform them that the road about threequarters of a mile south-west of the Waitoa station, was not a county road. Foremen's Reports.— G. Mahood reported on the roads in hia district, and on his recommendation the following works were authorised :—Sixty chains on flat near Gorton to be gravelled ; the roads in the Taotaoroa riding to be generally repaired before tho winter sets in ; tenders were ordered to be called for formation and making 56 chains of road between Mauugawhara Bridge and Mr Kohleis' gate ; the renewal of Mr Callaghan's contract for keeping the Okoroire-Tapapa Road in repair, was deferred until next' meeting. It was decided to put a large sill culvert, 6 x 3, to cost £lO, on the new road at Rangitanuku, where the water is liable to lodge ou account of there being very little fall. G. Wattam reported that a flood on 6th inst., had done great damage on tho Te Aroha-Gordon Road. Montague's dam had been swept away, and bridges and approaches near Brady's had been gteatly damaged. The water hid flowed over tho road near Newsome's and Roche's for about three days, and had removed a lot of the gravel. This has been a coutiuual source of trouble, and he (the Foreman) thought it could be stopped at small expense, if the Council could get permission to turn the water into an old course in Mr Roche's paddocks. The water would then pass under a bridge and cross the road nearer the stables.—lt was remitted to Crs. Gavin and Herries to visit the locality and report ou what was best to be done to repair the damage. Accounts.—The following were passed for payment:—R. Brocklesby, 12s ; W. Stanley, £l2 10s 3d ; G.
