WAINGARO
Polo Matches.—On Saturday, the 11th inst., a return match between the first teams of the Waingaro and Rata Polo Clubs, was held iu Ml- S. Pickeu's paddock. Waingaro representatives were Messrs A. Upton 1, H. Bull 2, B. Hewett (capt.) 3 and R. Seavill 4 ; while Rata was represented by Messrs A. Wilson 1, L. Allen 2, H. Wilson 3 and T.C.Wilson (capt.) 4. The game was played in four spalls ot ten minutes each, Rata scoring three goals and Waingaro one during the first spell, neither ream scoring afterwards. This is the second time this season the junior has defeated the senior club. Where all did yeoman service for their respective clubs, it would be invidious to particularize any player. Mr W. Seavill was refsree and performed his duties impartially. Both clubs placed a second team in the field. Rata's players were Messrs T. Mold 1, H. Wheeler 2, J. Burgess 3 and S. Picken 4 ; while Waingaro had Messrs G. McMillan 1, G. Bui! 2, F. Bull 3 and W. Seavill 4to do battle for it. At the end ot the fourth spell each team had scored four goals, and, as Polo rules require one side to win, Waingaro scored one goal during the fifth spell and won the match. Mr Hewets gave satisfaction as referee during this game The games were the fastest yet played between the clubs, and were watched with gteat interest by the partisans of both. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladios of the Rata Club, and a most enjoyable ufternoon was spent, the weather being all that could be desired and the ground in splendid order for the matches.—(Own Correspondent).
