BOATING ACCIDENT.

MR WALTERJACKMAN DROWNED Ahout 7 o'clock on Sunday evening, a boating accident took place off Ponsonby Whaif, Auckland, by which Mr Walter Jackman lost Irs life. It appears that the deceased, with throe companions, went out fishing off the Sugar Works, in al3 feet open boat. When returning and just before reaching the wharf, a sudden squall caused the mainsail to jibe, with the result that the boat was upset. Only one of the party could swim, and he swam ashore, and with the assistance of Mr Maesfield, launched a boat and picked up Jackman, who was very much exhausted. Mr Leslie Stewart, who also noticed the accident, got another boat but she had no oars in her, so he swam out with her and picked up the two men of the boat's crew remaining in the water. Mr Jackman, after being attended to by Drs. Mnir and Bedford, was sent to the hospital, but when the ambulance reached there, the man was dead.
