HUNTER'S OHAUPO SALE. On Tuesday, at Mr W. J. Hunter's sale, about 250 head of cattle we/e yarded, maDy of a good quality. Inere was a fair demand for young steers, of a cood class, up to a certain figure. Grown steers, in fresh forward condition, also sold fairly well ; but other classes were dull of sale. The following are the prices :-Steer calves, of good quality, £1 4s ; yearling steers, from £ll2s to £1 15s ; do. heifers, 17s 6d to 19s ; grown steers, from £4 4s to £4 ; three-year-old steers, from £3 to £3 13s J two-year-old steers, from £2 9s to £2 "e ; ei ßhteenmonths heifers, trom £1 7s 6d to £1 17b Bd;'empty cows, from £1 13s to %l ; small fat steers, £3 15s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report:—Auckland Wool Stores, January 11. "We had a moderate catalogue at our Tuesday's sale, and prices were firm. Hides : No prime to hand ; heavy atout ox, s£d to s£d ; stout, 4£d to 5d ; light and medium, 3fd to 4£d ; cow, 3jd to 4d ; bulk, 3Jd ; kip, 3d to 3jd ; calf, 31d to 4d ; stags, 2d to 2%i. Sheepskins : Large, 3s 9d to 4s 6rl ; small and medium, 2a 3d to 3s 6d ; pelts, salted, Is to Is 3d ; dry, 6d to 9d ; lambs, salted, Is 3d to Is 6d ; dry, 8d to Is Tallow : 13s to 14s 9d cwt. Wool, in bags, sold freely at about the level of previous sales. Maizo : Owing to the sharp rise in the Sydney market, prices here hare advanced to 3s 2d to 3s 3d on the wharf. Oal.B : Eecent arrivals have all gone to ■tore, and the ex store quotation is 2s 3d to 2j 3Jd. Chaff : The market is unsettled. New chaff in quantities will be received shortly, and prices will fall very much,
Messrs Alfred Bdckland & Sons' Wrekly Reyort.— At the Haymarket oaten sheaves have brought from 2s to 3s 3d ; wheat straw, 3s owt; pressed hay, 4s 6d ; oaten chaff, 4a 9d; Bunyarra bonedust, 6s 6d; Chesterfield guano, 3s 6d cwt; maize, 3s; wheat, 3s 2d ; oats, 2s fid bushel. At the Haymarket on Friday horses yarded numerously, and met a brisk sale. Heavy draught brought from £l7 to £27; spring-cart horses, £S to £l4; light harness, £4 to £6 each ; spring cart", £6 6s ; harness, £1 2s. On Tuesday hides advanced in value. Ox hides were from 3gd to s|d ; cowhides, to 3|d; calfskins, 3d to 3f d ; hair, Is Id lb ; tails, Is dozen ; tallow, 9s 3d to 15b 6d cwt; bones, 3s 6d cwt. skins at late values ; woolled skins, 2s 5d to 3s lOd ; shorn pelts, 8d to Is 4d ; lambskins, Is 3d to Is 6d each. On Wednesday dumps and bags of wool were sold. Clean wools were slightly better worth, dirty and inferior at lower prices. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows, in limited number, were better worth ; prices for those at profit ranged from £4 to £6. Calves, in full number, were at late values, fat cattle yarded numerously, 259 sold, advanced in price; steers were from 16s to 19s the 1001 b, and were from £5 5s to £8 10s ; cows, £3 10s to £6 each. Sheep, fairly supplied, 1400 yarded; wethers were at better values, ewes at last week's prices ; wethers were from 9i to 13s ; ewes, 6a 3d ♦o 10s ; store ewes, 3a 6d to 5s 9i each. Lambs, in moderate supply, 360 sold, kept last week's prices ; fair to good quality were from 7s to lis 9d ; inferior, from 4a each. Pigs, in short supply, prices boomed.
Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Re port.—GraiD, seed, horsefeecl : There was an upward tendency in the price of maize, while in seed oats it was in favour of the buyer. We quote : Maize, on wharf, 2s lOd to 2s lid bushel ; feed oats, 2s 5d ; oaten chaff, at station, £3 15s to £4 ton ; bran, £3 15s. Horse 3 : The demand has been a moderate one, and Urge numbers have been brought forward, and sales effected at the previous week's values. Increased numbers were disposed of by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. We quote : Heavy draught, at from £ls to £2l ; medium, £lO to £l7 10s ; light harness, £4 15s to £l2. Wool, hides, skins, etc. : A large catalogue was gone through on Tuesday. Sound stout ox hides sold at 4d to s|d lb ; light and medium, to 3fd ; cow, 3d to 3id ; stag, Hd to 2£d ; Bheepakins, 2s 9(1 to 4s 9d ; pelts, lid to Is 6d ; tallow, to 15s ; rough fat, Id to Wool, bags and dump, 4d to sjol ; pieces, lsd to 2i-d. Cattle : At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, fat stock was yarded in usual quantities, and showed a rise ot Is per 1001 b on last week's quotations. We quote : Oxen, 16s to 19s per 1001 b ; cows, 143 to 16s ; steers made from £5 7s 6d to £8 7s 6d ; cow 3, £3 10s to £6 2s fid ; dairy cows, yarded in full numbers, sold at from £3 us to £5 7s fid ; dry cows, £1 15s to £2 7a 6d. Sheep: The Newmarket Yards were fairly well filled on Tuesday, and advanced on last week's rates. Wethers made from 8s 3d to lis 9d ; ewes, 6s 3d to 10s 9d ; store ewes, 5s 3d to fis fid ; lambs, plentiful, sold well at from Gs 3d to lis 9d. figs : Scarce ; porkers sold at from 19a to £1 14s ; weauers, 4s 5d to tißd.
