Mr Benjamin Pickard, President of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain, addressing a conference of the federation, said the Workmen's Compensation Act had been a fruitful source of litigation and ill-feeling. It must be amended.

The federation resolved to urge amendments in the Act so as to include all trades and the omission of the clause relating to wilful serious miscorjduct. The federation recommends the immediate payment of compensation and the abolition of the " contracting out " system.
