CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The above Council met on Thursday evening. There were present : His Worship the Mayor (Mr \V. F. Buckland), Councillors Clark, Ferguson, Howe, Arnold and Carr. The lastmentioned made the necessary declaration, he having been elected to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr W. Escott.
A Right-of-Way Wanted.—Mr Hally, solicitor, wrote asking the Council to attach the common seal of the Borough to 3. deed granting a tight-of-way in the Borough.—The Mayor did not think it was necessary the seal should be attached, and moved that the matter be adjourned for a month, and in the meantime Mr Hally could be consulted about the matter —Seconded by Cr. Ferguson and agreed to. Financial Statement.—Overdraft at Bth December, £l2B 14s 10(1; accounts since paid, £l3 17s ; amount lodged during month, £ll7 8s 6d ; present overdraft, £25 3s 4il ; accounts to pass, £77 Is 8d : overdraft when accounts are paid, £lO2 os. The following were the accounts passed for payment: Clerk, £2-1-2s 2d ; H. Pieecc, £6 9s 3d ; N.Z. Insurance Company, £4 7s ; J- H. Edwards, £2 13a 6d ; H. Tumbull, £1 17s 9d; Waikato Hospital Board, £33 03; Souter and Co., lu's3f; G. Way man, 3s; Smith, 10s ; P. Fogar:y, £1 4* Sd ; R. Brockelsby, 19. s 8d ; T. Wattam, 13s od ; total, £77 Is Bd.
Don Registrar.—Thos. Hartly was appointed to this office, the fee for all classes of flops being fixed at 5s per animal.—Mr F. OToole's tender for the collats at lOd each was ace pted. Leases.—The Mayor, Crs. Clark and Carr were appointed to sign the leases of the Borough endowments leased afc last meeting of the Council. Half Holiday. —lt was resolved to hold a special meeting of the Council on Wednesday, the 25th instant, for the purpose of appointing a day on which the weekly half-holiday shall be held. Committees.— As Mr Carr had been elected in the place of Mr Escott, he was put upon the various committees vacated by that centleman. He was also put in charge of the East Ward for road work purposes.
Trees.—The Mayor said his attention had been called to the great growth made by the poplars between the bridges on the Gorton Road. They had grown such a height as to interrupt the view from one bridge to the other, and there was danger of accidents occurriug. The matter was referred to the South Ward members to attend to. —That concluded the meeting.
