OHAUPO.
Sickness and Death.--There is a considerable amount of sickness now in this district, especially among the juveniles, and many of the children attending school are suffering from influenza, which seems very difficult to get rid of. I regret to record the death of Mr Colhoun's youngest child, a baby girl of only a few weeks old. The little thing was only three day.s ill, and succumbed on Monday evening to an attack of influenzi. The interment took place on Wednesday, the tiny coffin being borne to its last resting-place by four little school children, and was followed by several friends and neighbours. The little casket was covered with wreaths sent by sympathising friends. Truly it is said rom the cradle to old age that grim monster Death stares us in the face. It was only a wee mite, but a living soul for all that, and none the less dear to its parents. Mr and Mrs Colhoun have sincere sympathy in their sad bereavement. Fkuit. Fruit in the shape of gooseberries is now being sent to Auckland in considerable quantities. Several orchardists complain of the gooseberry trees dying out, apparently without any cause Just as they are in full beariug off they go and have to be replaced with young Bacon- Factory.—Our bacon factory has closed down for a few months during the hot weather. I understand there is a likelihood of a freezing chamber being added to the plant soon.—(Own Correspondent). —- ___,
