THE PACIFIC CABLE.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. The Secretary of the Post-office has informed the Chamber of Commerce that it is the intention of the Government (subject to Parliamentary approval) to joiu with the other colonies in guaranteeing four-ninths of the total cost of construction and maintenance of the Pacific cable, the New Zealand guarantee in any case not to exceed one-eighth of the whole cost.
