BRITISH NAVY.
CONTRIBUTION BY THE CAPE. [UNITED PRESS association]. (by electric telegraph.—COPYßlGHT). Capetown, December 2. In the Cape Parliament, Mr Schreiner, in a patriotic speech, introduced a Bill authorising the contribution of £30,000 annually to the Imperial navy. He said he preferred an unconditional and direct contribution to the system of localisation adopted in connection with the Australian auxiliary squadron, because the naval Armageddon would have to be fought in the English Channel or the Mediterranean. He added that the English and Dutch wero alike willing to extend the hand of filial attachment to Great Britain. This sentiment was greeted with cheers. Some of the Afrikander members expressed the hope that the Transvaal, the Orange Free State, and Rhodesia, would make similar contributions. The Bill was read a second time unanimously.
