PIRONGIA.
Masonic—The annual meeting of the Alexandra Lodge of Freemasons, No. 1188, E.C., was held in the Lodge-room at the Alexandra Hotel on Wednesday evening last for the purpose of electing officers for the ensuing year, following were duly elected :—Bro E. L. Hope, W.M. ; Bro. Geo. Finch, S.W. ; Bro. J. Sinden, J.W. ; Secretary, Bro. A. Ahier; Treasurer, Bro. G. A. Ahier, P.M. ; Tyler, Bro. E. Garmonsway. Volunteers.—The No. 2 Company of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, under the command of Capt. Coleman, did a good drill to-day (Thursday) under that officer's instructions. The men are progressins admirably, and it is a great pity that the instructor can only give them such a short term of drill. They are only just getting into form, and as the captain leaves here to instruct the Cambridge contingent on Saturday (to-day), the only drill and instruction the men will receive here will be from their own officers, Lieutenants Aubin and Hodgson, who are, of course, only recruits. They are, however, both enthusiastic volunteers, and the welfare of the corps can be safely left in their hands to promote.—(Own Correspondent).
