POLAR EXPEDITION.

Sir Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographical Society, is writing to the presidents of the Australasian Geographical Societies and other scientific institutions, asking them to co-operate in the appointment of a committee in conjunction with the Royal Society to despatch a national expedition to the Antarctic. Sir Clements Markham expresses a hope that the colonial Governments will contribute towards the object.
