Enoinrkhs' Report.—l have the honour to report on various works as follows :- Churchill Punt . The bulk of the work is completed, the exception being the painting and the sinking of the anchors for the rope. When last over I arranged with the contractors to put in a new cog segment, and made an alteration in the anchor piles, taking Me.-srs Gibbs' guarantee for its efficiency. The size of the segment is set off by less cost of the anchors. The contractors allowed the punt to be worked as soon as completed, and a large number of cattle were crossed to the Rangiriri sales. Cr. Lowry and others info-m me that ic is working well and he also has arranged with mcto take soundings fcr a new site. Raglan-Waipa Road : After examining the culvert at the foot of the mouutain, I concluded it would be unwise to repair it, as it would take probably £3O to do so, without any guarantee that the work would be permanent, the foundation being so rotten, and you are doubtless aware that it collapsed on a previous occasion. The dimensions also are not sufficient for the proper carrying off of flood water. I have called tenders to re-place it either in wood or a bridge, with stone abutments, and in my opinion wood would be most profitable, although not so lasting. The Council have the option of repairing the present culvert or building a bridge in wood, or partly wood and stone. Several works were let at the end of October, the cost in all cases being covered by the Government grants. The contract tor the stone bridge at Wainui is the furthest advanced, and is uearly completed. The others mentioned call for no comment. Two contracts have been let at Waingaro (thirds money), bridge at Mr Douny's for £ls, Mr Donny contractor, and formation and metalling on road to Mr Allen's, to Terua, £l7 6s, and £2 2s 6d per chain for metal. The works at Waingaro-Te Mata Road unfinished, and suspended at the beginning of last winter, are still untouched, the roads not being fit to metal. I have notified the contractors to make a start.—The report was approved. _______^___
