MILK SUPPLIERS' UNION.
The following is the letter addressed to Mr Spragg, Manager of the New Zealand Dairy Association : "WAIKATO BUTTER BUSINESS. Dear Sir, —For some time past this organization, which you have refused to recognise, has been negotiating for capital to enable plant to be erected to make butter on account of the settlers, and now that we have concluded a'l our arrangements, it was decided to-day in general meeting of the Executive and Delegates of the Union, to inform you. (a) That we have arranged for capital to erect a central butter factory, and creameries of the most modern construction at all points where you are now represented. (b) That a company is to be at once formed and called The Waikato Cooperative Creameries (Limited). (c) That the capital has been procured for us by Messrs R. R. Hunt and Co., and Mr Hunt is to be Managing Director, the other directors being Messrs J. Fisher, J. Gaue, R. Burke, C. J. Elmsly, M. O'Dnnoghue, T. Patersou, J. Runeinmn and J. G. Berry. (A) That as we have every desire to arrive at an amicable settlement of terms with you for purchasing your Waikato butter business, for cash, at a valuation, we have fully empowered Messrs R. R. Hunt and Co. to see you and arrange the price if possible, but we wish you to understand most distinctly that we have quite made up our minds, in any case, to begin the business of butter-making on the co operative principle, for the benefit of ourselves and our fellow settlers. This letter closes our correspondence with you as a Milk Suppliers' Union, and Mr Hunt will represent us. Thiß letter was signed by Mr John Fisher (Chairman) and Mr Thomas Patterson (Treasurer), and 1G delegates.
