WELLINGTON SHOOTING CASE.
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. The case against the man Baker, accused of shooting at his wife with intent, was brought before the Court today. It came out iu evidence that the man had shot at her twice, once outside the house as well as inside, but Mrs Baker seemed somewhat undecided as to whether her husband really intended to hit her. Mr Kenny, S.M., thought the evidence did not sustain the charge of attempted murder, as it only amounted to an aggravated assault, and suggested to the police that the case had better be dealt with on these lines, but Inspector Pender strongly objected, and eventually Mr Kenny agreed to let the hearing proceed, as the question of intent could be decided by a jury. A man named Edward Mantell said he was in the house at the time and heard both shots, but did not interfere, as he thought it was not his business to meddle in the matter. The accused was committed for trial.
