A schoolmistress at Trieste, named Tressa, who had fallen in love with a married man, poisoned the man's wife and children and her own mother, and finally she poisoned the man she had made a widower because he refused to marry her. A destructive fire has occurred at Srinagar, capital of the State of Kashmir, and damage has been done to the extent of £66,000. Sir Alfred Milner, High Commissioner of Soutli Africa, has issued a proclamation warning residents against raiding Transvaal cattle. All the Chinese waterways have been opened to vessels registered at the treaty ports. Two clerks engaged in a foundry at Dcptford have recovered Maskellyne's offer of £SOO for producing a correct imitation of his notable box trick.
