(by telegraph—press association). Wellington, Last Night. Chow Kie, a market gardener, of Waiwetu, Hutt Valley, hanged himself. No cause for the deed is known. Donedin, Last Night. An important mining case came before Mr Macarthy, Warden, at Cromwell last week. The cribntera had an agreement with the liquidators of an Englishowned mine, and afterwards sold to a new company. The latter's attorney took possession, aud claimed to withhold 60 per cent., instead of S\ per cent, of all gold won ; also £IOO in cash, alleged to have been over-paid to the tributers. The Warden upheld the tributers' view of the agreement, and ordered the defendants to pay £1,700 within a week, and costs. Napier, Last Night. After several weeks' very fine weather, rain began last night and this morning. It is still pouring heavily. The races have been postponed.
