AUCKLAND NEWS.

(by telegraph.—press association). Auckland, Last Night. J. Orr leaves for Sydney to-morrow to take part in the Federal Rifle Association Meeting. Spurious half-crowns are in circulation. They are good imitations, three having been taken in at the Banks. The bakery establishment of Smith Bros., at Waitelcauri, has been burned down. There was no one in the building, which was insured for £250. A fire occurred in a block of houses belonging to Mrs Thomas in Ponsonby Road this afternoon. It started in a house occupied by Mr Edenborough. No one was in. The fire arose in a cupboard, where it is supposed a stove heated the woodwork. The effects were insured for £l5O in the Royal. The insurance on the building is not known, but the damage is estimated at £l5O.
