PROHIBITION.
CANADA AGAINST THE PROPOSAL. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT). Ottawa, October 1. THE plebiscite on the prohibition question was taken throughout Canada on Thursday. The following was the text of the ballot :—•'Arc you in favour of the passing of_ an Act prohibiting the importation, manufacture, or sale of spirits, wine, ale, beer, cider, and all other alcoholic liquors for use as beverages ?" The anti-prohibition* vote cast in the province of Quebec has defeated the movement, as the majorities in favour of prohibition in the other provinces are too small to carry the poll.
